Default 2017 Z71 Silverado w/124K miles transmission slipping

My 2017 Z71 Chevy Silverado transmission appears to be slipping and growling at 124,000 miles. The dealer has serviced the transmission per the recommended maintenance manual since day one.
My last Z71, a 2002 model, went almost 200,000 miles before I needed to rebuild the transmission at a cost of $1,600.

What does a rebuilt transmission cost these days at the dealer or am I better off having my transmission rebuilt by a local shop? Thanks.

definitely not.
Get an off the shelf re-manufactured transmission that's been dyno tested with good warranty from a reputable company. About $5k installed.
Change the fluid at least every 60k. Less if you tow.

Or, if you're near Amarillo then go see Precision Transmissions

My son-in-law just reminded me that he paid $4K last year to have his Suburban transmission rebuilt. His dealer wanted $6K.

I have a GM rewards card with $2,000 on it, thus bringing my out of pocket cost down to $4,500, so dealership it is.

I’m glad that I put all of my expenses on my GM Rewards card. Last year I shelled out $1,700 GM bucks on my Z71 to replace my evaporator coil.

This 2017 Z71 has cost me more in repairs than my 2002 Z71 ever did.

One last question. Is the “remanufactured“ transmission that is going in my 2017 Z71 as good or better than the piece of crap that failed at 124,000 miles? I would like to think that whatever contractor remanufactures them is better at it than the one that supplies the originals. Then again, I think I’m dreaming as I write this.

If it's remanufactured with improved components, then it could be a stronger transmission. That's a question you need to ask the supplier.
