Dreaded "Service 4WD" Message 2015 Silverado
Yesterday my 2015 Silverado 1500 5.3L (25k easy miles) started displaying the "Service 4wd" message and began significant front wheel hopping whenever I made a turn. I tried turning off ignition, cycling through the 4wd modes, etc., no joy.
It's at the dealer now but a quick online search revealed this as a quite common problem with this model and may require anything from a software patch, to transfer case actuator replacement, rewiring or transfer case rebuild. I also read more than a few posts from owners who have had the issue reappear multiple times. This is discouraging.
Is anyone able to offer advice or anecdotes on how to prevent this problem from occurring and also how to take steps to permanently fix the flaw?
Best Regards,
mLee

As you may have seen in one of my earlier post, I 'Had' a 2017 Silverado that did the same thing plus "Service Trailer Brakes", "Service Stabilitrak", "Steering Assist May Be Lost" among others. Six trips to the dealer and they never found the problem. I finally had enough and got rid of it. Good luck to you.

If nothing else, the OP needs to drop the factory fluid out of his transfer-case if it's not been done already.

Also our work truck a gmc sierra 2014 had all sorts of electrical issues, stabilitrak service, and our dash would blink, then luckily it died on a side street as we got off highway. No control of truck. Issue was bad grounds behind the dash board up top where the speakers are. Clean and reinstall.
