6 spd or 8 spd?
I am looking for a 2020-2022 double cab 5.3 Trail Boss, Seems some have the 6 spd some the 8 trans. Has the trans issue been worked out? Is one better than the other. Prolly only tow a 19' aluminum bass boat or my motorcycle and its trailer. Mostly hwy driving. But will do some off road. I like the trail boss because of the 2" lift and I like keeping mods like that per factory.
Seems this topic is all over the place, some love the 6 or 8 and some hate it.

I had six speed with no problems. The "transmission" problems are not quite correct- actually. . . defective torque converters throwing "shrapnel" into transmission. Most of the problems affected 8-speed trans but 6-speeds also affected to a lesser degree. I changed trans fluid every 30,00 miles AHEAD of scheduled maintenance. I went to 103,000 miles then had a serious accident and vehicle totaled! Air bag deployed with no bodily injury. Trans models affected are 8L45 and 8L90 used across many Chevy, GMC and Cadilac models. The remedy is to switch to "Mobil 1" ATF per TSB 18-NA-355. Check it out.
