Default Trans Temp

What kind of trans temps are you guys seeing towing a 14 foot enclosed trailer. I just got an 08 'burb and just want to know what is a safe temp. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum,
there will be lots of opinions on it but several factors will apply, do you have a aux trans cooler?
A search of the forum will yield some good info, I believe the general consensus is any extended periods of towing over 210f is probably not healthy for the tranny, but regularly servicing can help extend its life, and adding an ext cooler will help...

I do think it came with an aux trans cooler stock. I have been a Ford guy for all of my driving before this, and havent had this option before so I didnt know what to look for.

Question on adding a ext. tran cooler. How do you monitor the temps before/afterwards if you do not have a tran. temp gauge in your instrument cluster panel? My current truck has a tran cooler and gauge so I can watch the temps. The Suburbans I have been looking at picking up do not have this gauge but would probably like to add an ext. tran cooler since I tow a 5700lb 28' long camper.

Shoot the pan with a temp gun. Or you should be able to install your own temp gauge and sender without too much trouble.

You might try a few forum searches, as I believe this has been discussed but I don't recall what the outcome of adding the ext temp gauges has been.

Do you have a DIC? If so, the tranny temp is one of the options.
