Default Water Leak in cab

Just noticed this today. Found a TSB about it but doesn't look like my vehicle is covered in that TSB.

Ouch! That is terrible in a vehicle that new.

Any idea where it is coming from? I had water intrusion in the back of the cabin on my old 1996 C1500 when I replaced the center brake light assembly last year. The new one had a crappy foam seal that did not seal very well at all, and rain water intruded and collected inside the brand new light assembly, and presumably ran down into the headliner area as well. Kinda hard to tell since the headliner fabric started dropping like a tent on me years ago, and I ripped it all out.

Other than what the TSB says I have no idea. The information I could find was about the plastic around the rear window slider cracking and letting water in. Water runs down the middle of the window. Mine looks like it is coming from under the rear cab wing/spoiler thing. What makes me mad is the TSB was from June 2024, they have had the vehicle several times for updates and other recalls, never even said anything about it or checked it I guess. Probably saw the staining and just never said anything. Now with being over 36k miles nothing is covered. I called the extended warranty and they won't tell me anything until the shop looks at it but the guy did say no seals or anything like that is covered which makes sense, they already know everything that is going to go wrong and write all that stuff out of the coverage apparently with this warranty. I guess I am not like others that have all the electrical stuff blowing up and shorting out that is connected to the back of the cab like I have read about other than the new hidden sub I just installed. I am taking it to the dealer to get it fixed just by some act of GOD it gets covered by the extended warranty or Chevy covers it for some reason. $200 dollars for them to diagnose the issue, $200 bucks an hour for shop time, the TSB says 1.9 hours to complete and there are some parts that need to be purchased to replace 1 time use parts that come off when your doing the work along with all the tubes of sealant they need to plaster all over the cab to seal it so I am sure those are all back ordered, the sealant is probably 3 dollars a tube at Walmart but at the dealer it is $150 dollars a tube and this whole thing will take weeks to get fixed, when I finally get it back it will still leak so it will be great! I just really can't even wait. What really sucks and the only way I even knew it was happening is like I said, I just installed a Kicker HS10 hidden sub behind the rear seat and it got full of water and screwed up. When I put a shop light in there to to some troubleshooting with the sub last weekend I saw the staining on the head liner plane as day and was waiting for the next rain to see if the roof was leaking back there and sure enough it was and is so who knows how long it has been doing that. You would never even be able to tell with the black and dark interior unless you shined a light on it or every electrical component behind the seat started sizzling and smoking. It really sucks but that is how pretty much everything is nowadays. Didn't want a Chevy what so ever but didn't want a Ford with a 6 cylinder so it is what it is. When I replace the sub I am going to install some plastic back there so when it happens again all the electronics are covered and the water can run down into the cab wiring and connectors.

Ouch!

All of the horrible quality issues these days with the trucks - not just Chevrolet - are why I am holding onto my 2006 Silverado work truck and slowly saving towards a full restoration of my 1996 C1500 step side - mostly as I love the step side body and the extended cab. I've had the 1996 truck for 29 years, and the worst thing that has happened is I've replaced the intake manifold gasket twice in 201,000 miles and the radiator once. Everything else has just been normal wear and tear.

I am a firm believer in your theory! It isn't for everyone though. I bought my first new pickup in 1987, F150 shortbox with the 5.0 and C6. 4 door pickups weren't a thing yet, they actually looked hilarious to me at that point! In 2002 at 200k I restored everything in my F150! Brand new roller 5.0 shortblock from Ford Motorsport, alum heads, ebrock truck intake, Ford cobra 5.0 sequential port fuel injection, new computer and wiring, injectors went to the lariat cab interior and seat, factory elec windows and locks, factory A/C from Arizona mobile air on 134, brand new C-6 trans, 3g alternator upgrade, everything brand new, diff parts, u-joints, seals, larger radiator, new performance Y pipe, hi flow cat into dual 3 inch out the back, you name it. Went from 22 second 1/4 mile time to a 15! Removed tons of rivets in the frame and replace with bolts, all the steering and suspension parts replaced, did a Rancho 2 inch lift in the late 90's when all the suspension was pretty much shot, had some things on the frame welded up and supported better. Paint is still original and holding in there, I always washed it well and kept it coated with Meguires products. I had the bed rhino lined in 90 or 91, it it still looks brand new. I have driven that as my daily driver from 1987 until I got this 2022 Chevy 35 years. I ended up having to help my Mom after my father passed and I am driving 50 or more miles a day, I have 40k on my rebuild F150 and didn't want to drive it into the ground again. Couldn't find a new F150 4x4 with a 5.0 in the US. Only 2 available that had a lot of miles used that I could find so I got the Chevy. People lost their minds! I took a lot of crap and now I am living in that crap, problems and issues just like everyone else and like you said, it isn't just Chevy, it is everything! It hasn't stranded me, neither has my Ford ever if you can believe that! I really like the Chevy, you just can't compare the 2 vehicles but it is strange how much alike they feel to drive. My Ford is so fun, is now a collectors item, people gather around it when I stop at places and I still love it more than the day I got it. I already have 40k miles on the Chevy! The 10 speed trans is so nice, towing my trailer is so nice, having the giant cab for 5 people is so nice, it is dead quiet and with the Trailboss lift and tires it rides like a dream. It just sucks to have an issue like this. It has been pretty solid so far other than this. If you are going to get something new buy the best warranty you can! I bought a brand new 2016 Dodge Durango R/T, terrified to get a Dodge but it did everything we needed a vehicle to do, tons of power, super inexpensive compared to other SUV's, paid up for a lifetime warranty that covered everything literally but the wipers blades, fluids, brake pads rotors and tires and I have used that warranty so many times it is stupid! Only had to pay some kind of deductible 1 time for something to do with the seat, time or a connector or something. The dealer knows my name, knows the car. It has stranded me! Still love that car as well, lifted it, my wife also loves it. Just turned 40k miles over on that car. It is a keeper. Everybody's situation is different, time is time and money is money though. Things are really expensive and of the lowest quality every, good parts are hard to find. At this point any Honda you can get your hands on is a good bet and whatever needs fixed is worth doing or having done at a hi cost. If you need to tow something good luck! Don't get a 4 cyl or a 6 cyl! Get the best warranty you can get and make sure it covers a rental car of some kind is about the best advice I can give anybody!

Love the F150! It's a keeper and a classic for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Good luck getting this leak fixed, and let's pray its the worst of your problems with your modern Chevy.

They said it was the rear tail light. Applied sealant everywhere, got it all over the headliner, back window, didn't get the headliner re-installed, sealant hand prints all over the back outside of the cab, inside of the cab, giant mess. I didn't even go back in to fight it. Oh, and it was over $400 dollars not covered by the extended warranty I purchased or Chevy so I could have just squirted a couple tubes of sealant all over for $20 bucks and not had to detail the vehicle when I was finished. I left a review on the website and received a call from someone who said they would detail it and they are trying to get me a refund for the cost as well as the cost of the hidden sub the water damaged. I doubt anything will happen, he has called me 2 times and haven't heard anything, it has been weeks now. Waste my time at the dealer, waste my time with phone calls. When I picked up the vehicle it was in the parking lot, 2 tubes of sealant on the ground right by it, smelled like silicone for a couple weeks in the cab, took an hour to get it all cleaned off the inside and outside of the pickup, found it in other places the next couple days, it was everywhere including the steering wheel and tailgate. I have floor liners and the back floor liner as well as the bed liner had millions of dirt boot tracks all over, I mean like you walked in powder dirt and then stepped all over the place inside the pickup. I just can't wait to be done with Chevy and the Chevy dealer that I know so well now after 3 years. Go back to the 5.0 Ford that I probably am not going to be able to find once again.

Good grief. I guess I am just a confrontational person. I would have blown my stack if I came to pickup a vehicle and found it in that condition.

So sorry to hear of your troubles.

Been through too much over there, needed the thing back, can't just leave it there for days on end. Waited weeks to get it in there and they couldn't confirm if it would be covered until they did the work, just one BS story after another. Had to pay the fee for them to look at it this last time with the leak, if there is something to fix then that money goes towards fixing it, may be covered by the extended warranty. Seems pretty obvious to me the cab is leaking in the back that it has to be something wrong with the vehicle, not something I broke but that is just me. In my mind something is defective failed and leaked. Spend 15 minutes taking off a couple panels, filling everything with sealant and putting it back together for over $400 dollars is awesome for them! The last time they hard water spotted half the front window and the passenger side of the truck, some of the hardest spots I have ever had to get off. It is in town where I live and my water doesn't do that so I don't know if they sprayed it with something or what happened. It is just nobody seems to care about anything any more especially if it isn't their own. I am just 100% amazed there have been no door dings, scratches or anything like that. Black pickup shows everything. I also haven't had to pay anything so far for every trip in for recall or other issues so that has been nice but it is just a pain in the neck to take it there. You don't know what is going to happen but pretty sure it won't be good. The review was about the best thing I could have done I think. People read those and the company reads them as well come to find out. I just wrote what happened, none of my own opinions or thoughts or anything. Dealerships have had way more years to figure out the dance with customers so they are pretty much dialed in! You are just walking into the unknown to get manipulated by their system and separated from your money. They have a monster to feed!
