Default 02 cavalier no start help?

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and am having a starting problem with my 02 cavalier with the 2.2l. I recently replaced the engine in it and now it wont start, the engine is out of a 2000 cavalier and everything connected right up, but for some reason I am not getting any spark. I bought the engine which was running from the 2000 and even the one I had in the car ran but barely, after putting a nice size whole in the block. I have tested the coil pack to see if I'm getting voltage, which I am, and i have tested all fuses for pcm, bcm, IGN, and so on. I turn the key to the on position and I hear the fuel pump energize. The one thing i did notice that was different with the two cars was that mine has the pcm mounted by the passenger strut tower and the car i bought the engine out of did not, most likely under the dash or something. Are there any other tests I can run? Maybe a cam or crank sensor is bad? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

did you get the ecu from the 2000 motor? If I were a betting man there is something different from 00 to 02 with the programing.

No I didn't get the ecu but is there a way that maybe the sensors have different perameters? And would you happen to know if the wiring harness is the same?

I saw in a video yesterday about cavalier water pumps there were two different vin codes listed for the cavalier up to 2002, I'm betting you have an ecu from one vin code and the motor you bought was from the other vin code.

that's my guess. I would research your car vin and engine code and if you have access to the other car vin that would help. see if the ecu and and vin are similar. I'll look and see if I can find the information i saw yesterday.

8th vin digit, #4 or F
#4= older 2.2 motor
F = newer 2.2 motor

it's in the first 30 seconds of this video, which is why I assume you will need the ecu from the 2000 cavalier

ok cool thank you for the help, i did some more research and found out the 8th vin of the 2002 is 4 and the 2000 was F not sure why its like that but they dont match so ill probably go to the junk yard and pick up an ecu with wiring harness and see if thats my problem.

Ok so what i did today was shoot some carb cleaner in the tb to see what would happen and it finally started then died. So I think i have a fuel problem. when i turn the key on i can hear the pump kick on, not too sure what fuel pressure is but i can keep it running with the carb cleaner. could it be a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pressure regulator? maybe even a theft system?
