2002 sudden surge problems
Hi Everyone,
Newbie here and thanks for having me. I got a problem with my daughters 02 cavalier, 2.2 engine . All of a sudden the engine is surging (as if you are hitting the gas pedal) when coming to a stop. But whats really weird is that it only does it with the heater in the on position(any position on the blower). It does it no matter where i put the heater selector (a/c,heat,floor,defrost,etc) When i turn it off it totally stops surging. The a/c never worked in this car but the compresser turns freely. (It had a leak in it and it was never fixed) Ive heard of a/c pressure switches acting up but w/o a/c working can this still affect me? This is a strange first post but i had to throw it out there. Lmao... Any help would be appreciated, cuz i am lost on this one. BTW, i cleaned the throttle body and idle air control valve. Put new plugs, wires, gas and air filters in too!

Ok,I talked to three different people last nite and all three said possible vacuum leak b/c it involves the heater selector switch. Is this possible? I didnt think the heater selector switches still use vacuum at all. STUMPED.......
Some cars definitely have vacuum lines connected to the heater switch. Whether Cavalier is one of these - I do not know.
Another explanation is your car thinks A/C compressor kicks in and tries to compensate for increased load. Since you say A/C is not working I'd try to disable it fully, starting with removing the fuse.
