I have a 2004 Cavalier and the air cond is not working well. Does not really cool and when I turn air cond on I get "engine surges" and the rpm's jump way up. Car almost seems to lunge forward when it has these rpm surges. When I turn the air cond off the problem goes away. Any ideas on what the problems is???

 

Some power surging is normal. When the A/C comes on there's a good size load being put on the engine so it has to step up the base idle speed or the engine would stall. If you think the A/C is cycling too much you may be low on freon.
