Cavalier idles high and sputters
I just changed the starter in my 1998 2.2 Cavalier and am having other problems now. This car hasn't been driven in about 6 weeks and the first time I started the vehicle after repair it was idling high for about 5 seconds and then came down and when I went to take the key out the engine was still on with the key turned off. The second time I started the car it was still idling high but now when I took the key out the engine turned off like normal. During the second attempt I revved the engine a bit (~1000-2000 RPM) and it sounded great. Now when I tried to start the car it is still a high idle but it just sputtered until the engine turned off even with the key in. I've got no idea what could cause this by changing the starter. I did come into a problem with a fusible link when changing the starter but I believe I fully repaired it. The fusible link goes from the small terminal on the starter to a fuse box attached to the front by the battery (Not the large fuse box on top of the battery). I've got limited knowledge in regards to vehicles and outside of pretty minor repairs I haven't done much to this vehicle. Changed the oil regularly and replaced the water pump but that's pretty much it.
