my engine fan is running all the time
I am very new to this forum. I just recently found this site and have been reading all the complaints for the chevy cruzes. My check light has been on for about two weeks. I have a 2011 Chevy Cruze with 42000 miles on it. The fan constantly runs and is very loud. I had on star do a diagnostic check and my husband plugged up his testor and it said what on star said P0597 Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Open. I called the dealership and told them I needed the part and they told me they have to run there own check which is $98 on top of what ever it is they find and if its not cover, I have to pay that as well. That is such a rip off. If I would have known these issues arise, I would have never traded in my paid off 2008 aveo for this piece of crap car I have now. I told them that if this is a continuous thing that it should be recalled. The girl was not very nice at all, was not helpful. Someone please help!!!
Hello all,
I hope I put this in the right place.
First let me start off by saying I have a 2013 Chevy cruze that I bought with a salvage title (Hit in the rear/ great deal)..So going to the dealer is not an option.. even though the engine area was untouched.. im guessing they wont honor any of the power train warranty. Car has 24k on it now.. bought it with 14k
Car has been fine until about a month ago when i started experiencing issues with the dashboard lighting up with traction, abs and engine lights.. After a some research here I tracked it down to replacing the pedal/sensor.. Which I did today. Installed and codes cleared by a trusted mechanic.. Everything was fine, until i was almost home..
Engine light came back, but this time with out the reduced engine issue.. I press Onstar and was told the code is p0599 and with some research I kind of tracked it down to being either the thermostat, thermostat sensor or radiator temp sensor.. But cannot find a definitive answer. Anyone have any input? No antifreeze leaking, no overheating car running fine as far as i can tell after changing the pedal sensor..
Thanks in advance for any comments

I have a similar unresolved issue with my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. It has around 50K miles on it. A week ago, the temperature gauge jumped into the red after 5 minutes of driving and the car told me it was shutting the A/C off, then it told me to idle the engine and wouldn't stop beeping. I pulled over, but the engine was only a little warm (after all, I'd only been driving for 5 minutes) and the coolant was full. I took it in to the dealer since it's still in the 100,000 mile/5 year powertrain warranty (but out of the bumper-to-bumper period). They charged me around $95 for the diagnostic and told me it was the engine coolant temperature sensor (which I already suspected). Of course, since it's not covered under the powertrain warranty, I wanted to do the repair myself (since it's a $29 part and you only need a screwdriver to replace it - much better than the additional $100+ they were going to charge me).
Here's what I think feels like a rip off and a scam - I'm still in the powertrain warranty period, but I have no way of knowing whether something will be covered unless the dealer does their diagnostic. If it's something major (lucky me?), then it's covered, and the diagnostic is free. But if it's not covered (coolant temperature sensors are not covered), then I'm charged for the diagnostic work. Oh, and of course, the "work" involved was reading a code, and they already had my car in the garage with the computer hooked up to perform a repair for a recall! It feels like a scam to discourage you from coming in to get something repaired that might actually be covered for free.
I complained about this at the dealer (Kocourek Chevrolet in Wausau, WI), but they wouldn't do anything for me.
Anyway, I replaced the faulty temperature sensor and the problem is not resolved. The temperature gauge is working fine now, but the fan still keeps running all the time. I suspect it's the thermostat. This WOULD be covered under the powertrain warranty (I think), but now I'm hesitant to go back to the dealer because they'll probably just charge me another $95 and fail at diagnosing the problem again.

We would be more than happy to look into this further for you. Please feel free to send us a private message along with your VIN, current mileage, contact information and preferred dealership. Looking forward to hearing from you.
