Not happy with MY Cruz
This is the cold truth:
1) Your driving habits causes the constant shifting and poor gas milage.
2) the goodwrench shop is incompetent at properly replacing the oil filter causing oil to leak out. Its not the factory's fault as it worked when the factory assembled it.
3) The transmission oil is not faulty, it is purchased in MASS quantities by the tank and inserted into the vehicles down the line. If your car had bad oil, ALL the Cruze's would have bad oil as they all get it from the same supplier.
This just proves the transmission oil is fine.
ALSO: Its a known fact that inexperienced drivers will accelerate fast, spike the gas peddle causing the car to shift, and also if its a manual, drag the clutch, jam the gears, and then rev it up then shift, even stall it; Then they turn around and say the car is a leamon because they lack the skill to drive calmly and to drive properly so the car gets its high MPG.
4) Your biased attitude is caused your family to agree with you to either not dispoint you, ot simply because their reality of the Cruze is warped because of you.
5) GM did not do the testing on the public, the car was tested out in every way you can think of and more before they put it up for sale.
But I guess you are right, they can't account for stupidity and incompetency, on the the owners and mechanics part, and failure to properly maintain and operate the vehicle.
6) Consumer reports is utter crap. Anyone who believes that is like a herd of cows following each other off a cliff.
Do your own reaserch and look at the materials used in production, look at the assembly, look at the structural integrity, look at the actualy crash test results, etc. You will start to realize that the Cruze is a very well built car.
7) If snow and ice collects where the lower engine cover was cut because people don't know how to properly change the oil filter, then get off your lazy but and remove it. Don't sit there whining about it saying its GM's fault. Its not going to hinder much to remove the cover. or to take the time to clean it out.
8) You strike me as one of those people who expect everyone to do everything right and to cater to you in every way, you blame the manufacturer for something they did not do. You think that because one bad expierence like #2 above, that every GM car is bad. And you expect that when you come here whining because of #5 above, everyone here will give you a hug and a pat on the back saying "there there, its okay"
-------------------------
In my opinion, you need to grow up and get educated.
People like you give good things a bad name, just look at the Chevrolet Corvair. That car was safe and operated very well. Until an idiot like you came along and in his case, wrote a book "unsafe at any speed", which caused everyone to get a skewed view of the vehicle.
A known fact is that of the Corvairs that are around and that sold, and of those that are still around, they still operate just fine, and they are still just as safe.
---------------------------
What were you expecting to accomplish in coming here anyways?
Yes you ranted about your problems like I pointed out in #5 above. But, your a minority. 90% of the Cruzes in use do not have these issues. And I and others gave you proof that you and the mechanic are the cause of most of the issues you seem to have.
This is not reason to try to skew someone elses point of view of the vehicle, let them do their own research, let them test drive the car, so don't come here and say stop buying GM because you are throwing a hissy fit.

Proper reasons? What a farce. But you are right-this has gotten like picking a scab. Your post shows your absolute ignorance-I presume you are a Gm employee-or an unemployed high school drop out,tea party member with nothing better to do. Am buying a Toyota-goodbye,Gm.
All we are pointing out, is that after riding with several customs and see their driving habits and then kindly explaining to them that how the 6 speed operates they end up loving the car. It's not a cruze issue... We had one custom buy a 6 speed regal. Came in complaining that he bought the car because his new toyotas trans acted exactly like that, and he didn't like it. After riding with him, explain that it was a close ratio six speed and showing him how modulating the gas pedal and spikes in throttle position caused bumpshifts, he took it back home. Came back 3 weeks later, walk over to my tool box, and said " thanks for taking the time with me a while back, I really enjoy the car now. Let me know if you go somewhere because I'm not going to another technician." And if the shield was cut properly, you wouldn't be gathering snow in it... Just another reason why your mechanic is not suited for his job. And by the way, everyone I've talked to in person, outside of the dealership, loves their cruze...
I'm not a GM employee, I do work, and its none of your business.
Like GM_Tech92 said, properly driving the newer vehicles will get you the higher MPG.
Its not like yester years where you got in, turned a key and pressed a peddle like a monkey. It actually takes some effort and awareness to learn how the vehicle was designed to operate.
The problem is not the car, its you. You really need to take the time to learn how to drive the car the way it was designed and stop the flame fest.
You can complain all you want and blame it on the car, but when you buy that toyota, it will act the same way considering it was built with a similar electronic shifting system.
And chances are you will probably find toyota forums to go flaming about the toyota when it acts the same way. And toyota's have been known to fail almost all the time, so you will be taking it to your "Mechanic" more often.
You have to learn, vehicles are mass produced. They are all built different with the best tech and designs to achieve the best economy and power with the current technology available today.
Cars are not built to each persons preferences, the person has to learn to drive the car, its not the other way around.
If your really against learning how to properly drive the new automatics on the market today, I suggest you buy a stick shift, but be careful they take skill to drive, you might be unhappy that you will have to learn to engage the clutch without stalling it, you might as well stick with the automatic as you already have somewhat of an idea on how to drive it.
----------------------
Also, you need to learn that its not GM's fault that your mechanic can't properly change your oil and correctly replace an oil filter.
And your mechanic is not professional if he can't properly do this simple task.
Which means he is most likely messing up other things on your car.
----------------------
Go buy your Toyota and get out of the US & canada, and stop staying here and saying your a supporter of your nation when your not. If you were, you wouldn't be easily giving up on your homelands companies. A true supporter is through thick and thin, a hypocrite leaves when it gets hard. You are a hypocrite in my eyes and your nations eyes, be gone.

The title of this thread along is misleading and should be changed to something more objective in my opinion.
That being said,I drove the wifes new Cruze on a long highway trip for the first time attending our sons college graduation.
I was actually impressed on how the transmission responded to driver input on hilly terrain at highway speeds.I agree alot has to do with "HOW" you drive the car and can easily see how an impatient or aggressive type-constantly pushing on releasing the gas pedal type of driver could be annoyed.
But that is not what this car is....It is an economy car designed exclusively to attain the best possible gas mileage and with enough power to get you out of a situation should it ever occur.By the way we averaged 38.4 MPG on the 400 miles round trip and I was doing over 65MPH most of the time.
I found acceleration more than adequate when needing to pass as well.
I give the Cruze a thumbs up on all regards.
Some people will never be pleased no matter what they drive. All Vehicle manufactures will have a few issues with a certain percentage but it is very very small.
I have been a loyal GM customer for 50 years and haven't had any problems with any of the GM cars that I have owned in the past but the Chev Cruze is trying my patience. It is back to the shop for the 6 th time for another different problem. So far GM has addresed the problems and tried to repair but my 36,000 mile warrenty is about to run out and I'am tkinking about a Ford as I have two very reliable Ford trucks. 2011 Cruze problems/ no brakes in reverse, possible fire recall, trans oil leak, water pump coolent leak, rough shifting,antifreeze/oil odor in car different problem than waterpump leak. All my service has been done by schedule at Chev dealer where purchased. I really like the cars performance and drivabilty. when I don't have problems.
Ditto. But it's how you drive the car, apparently.(a city block to reach 40 km-or about 25 mph doesn't sound like a heavy foot to me-while car is at 3500-4000 rpms to do that) I could put up with the lousy transmission, but 8 repair trips in a year seems a bit excessive.Driving doesn't explain all of the problems(ie-faulty solenoid, heater quitting, paint chipping, etc) I quit posting here because I didn't want to sink to the level of ignorance of some members.(get off my fat ***-really?) I found this car to be a total failure-will never buy GM again if this is their reliability.
I know how to drive just about anything on wheels .The problem with the Cruze has nothing to do with driving habits. I will not buy a foreign car if at all possible but I know that all cars have foreign parts in them but that is a different problem. My next car will be a FORD product . I don't have a problem with GM'S service dept at Shottenkirk FT Madison IOWA which is 1 st rate but they have to deal with an inferior product in the Cruze . I really love how the Cruze handles and the performance is great, gas mileage is exceptional, ride is good for small car. The reason I will switch to Ford is the handiling of my complaint issue with GM and their lack of concern about my problems with the CRUZE. The last problem with the antifreeze/oil odor which makes the passengers sick was the last straw for me as this is problem #6 which is too many.

That happened to my grandfather, they were the same way about their buick they had because the dealer ship kept purposly breaking things to get them to keep coming back.
That dealer was later shut down because of the way they were, their license was revoked.
(They also damaged new cars).
Do yourself a favor and do your own work, saves money and you can make sure its right.
---------------------------------
I know many people with the Cruze, their cars are perfectly fine.
Simply shunning everything GM has to offer is just ignorant childish behavior really.
It is like me refusing to ever buy Nestle cookies because I got one with a deformed cookie.
Simply because at some point a set of parts in production might have gotten through that were bad, does not make the car or company bad.
You have to remember, a negative attitude will always try to find negative things and then that persons perspective is always of problems.
Try to be positive.
And BTW that is how the trans was designed to operate, you always spiking the peddle or being a heavy foot driver causes constant shifting.
That is not a bad trans or bad control module.
A bad module just stops working and you don't have any gear selections, which has happened, but is VERY rare.
----------------------------------------
Telling people to stay away from the Cruze simply because of a few people like you who have bad experiences or do not like the car/GM is wrong.
The thread should be titled something different.
And you shoulld be like this is what is happening, any ways to fix, anyone able to help?
But instead you come here and complain and bash the car instead of try to solve any potential problems.
Your not being constructive, your beind destructive, and its people like you who give good reliable cars bad rap.
Just look at the Chevrolet Corvair, it was a very nice and reliable car, but one idiot ruined it for the rest with his bashing of the car and exaggerating things for no reason with his book "Unsafe at any speed."
Thats a perfect example of what your doing, your trying to make it like EVERY car is a POS, when the reality is that 99% of the Cruze's out there and in production work just fine and are reliable.
And so you know many people realized the mistake they made for not buying the Corvair after it was discontinued because of the ones that sold, the car worked great.
But it was to late, the car was discontinued, and after people realized what happened, they were bashing the idiots book and that idiot who wrote it.
