Default Bad Transmission Module/Stabilitrak ?

2014 Chevy Equinox LT

Yesterday I got home and parked in the driveway. I remembered I forgot something at the store so I try to go from park to reverse and it won’t move from park. I realize after a while that the ‘ M ‘ For Manuel is lit up at the gear shifter and is selected while I am still stuck in park. The dash read the same: M1.

After about 20 minutes it registers that it is in park and the dash reads the same ‘ P ‘ and then I am able to change gears and back out of the drive. It is not shifting extremely hard just going from neutral to drive/reverse or park. So hard the car shakes.

online it said to check the brake lights to see if they came on and if not that it could be the ABS sensor. Mine came on just fine.

Im thinking a TCS Sensor or something.

All fuses are good. Used a multimeter.

happened again today. I disconnected the battery for 2 minutes and reconnected. After reconnection it still read the car was in Manuel mode while actually in park. Finally after a while it allowed me to switch gears but doesn’t read and gear selected on the dash and the shifting between P/R/N/D is harder than yesterday. Then as listed in the picture it says service StabiliTrak.

any idea how to resolve this? Need help. Daily driver.
thanks 🙏

I don't know these cars, but as my wife just got one and I'm repairing it... I'm trying to learn quick. Are there switches or a switch that the shifter uses to tell the transmission what gear you selected? Are there actual cables going to the transmission? Where are the switches, at the transmission linkage (if there is) or at the shifter? I'd be checking those switches to verify they're working properly... (Only had my wife's car since this last Friday soo like 3 days lol)

Start with a code scan of modules (not just OBDII) that will direct your troubleshooting efforts further. Remember DTC's are not parts lists. Good Luck.

A had two different people run the codes and the code it gave when it gave the code was a Park Neutral Switch. $1,200 to replace which means they had to drop the transmission and the valve body because the switch is buried under all that. Did NOT fix the problem. They said the repair is under warranty but when I took the car back because it had the same issue they didn’t honor it and tried getting me to pay another $1,500z no thanks. At this point the car is not drivable. This sucks.

I was thinking about trying to swap the shifter box which is what your shifter is attached to but for one it isn’t shooting that code and two auto part stores don’t stock it. I asked why and they said it had to come from the dealer. Plus I don’t have the money to just throw at this thing. At this point I can’t even trade it in.
