Default 01 express brain buster

I've been having an issue with my 01 express (5.7). Occasionally when I would start it, it would make a noise like metal rubbing on metal. I would shut the motor off and start it again and the noise would disappear. It didn't sound like a bearing those sound like a stuck pig. I was stopped at the store and the same thing happened metal rubbing noise so I shut it off quickly then tried to start it and nothing completely dead. No fuel pump, no crank, no gauges. Turn the key and nothing happens. I tried jumping the starter and it turned over but wouldn't run. Any ideas before I call my mechanic?

Maybe your starter is getting jammed or your ignition is sticking on "crank".
I would check that and also remove the belts to see if anything is stuck there.

I've heard an alternator do this when it was going out.
