I want to install a double din stereo in my 97 van. It has a factory stereo with the CD player below the radio. How can I install a double din touchscreen and make it look ok? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Nothing in search either. I went ahead and ordered a 2din anyway and will start butchering when I receive it :/
if you found any info on your side please post up!
I have spent a lot of time in that dashboard recently. There is definitely plenty of room in there for a double din. In my opinion, pulling off a DD in that dash without it looking like crap boils down to how well you are able to cut and trim the dash trim piece dividing the upper and lower sections of the trim panel. It's a big chunk of plastic to remove, but then making it look like you didn't remove it; IMO, that will be the trick.
You could modify a kit like this one to fit the receiver properly in the hole. For what it's worth the sheets for installation are here.

It would look sweet...
Here is a pic of my single DIN install. My son doesn't rate a custom double-DIN...
Decided to start cutting today. I installed a cheap eBay 2Din that has great sound actually.
The install looks ok and was a bit involved.
Key was to correctly align and measure depth before screwing in the brackets. I reused the brackets that let you pop put the unit easily, and fabricated some brackets/shims out of sheet metal to make it fit.
Used a multi tool to cut the dash, not a very tight fit around the opening but will get some trim that will finish it up nicely.
good luck
Also gotta find a pocket/cover for where the CD player was
I realize this is a pretty old thread but I thought it in case others are considering the same Double-DIN install it may be worth one more post.

More info on my install is posted here. However, also in that thread, I was informed that a 2001-2002 Express dash trim panel is already set up for a Double-DIN and will fit earlier models.
The 2002 I have now that panel was broken over the steering column. I didn't realize there was a difference until I went out and grabbed one out of a '97 and come back and see the radio opening is shorter.
At the time I had two 2002s and the other one had a single DIN put in it so I just put that dash panel on it and took the unbroken one for that to the second one which had the double DIN installed by that point.
Even more goofed up, the kit I ordered for the first 2002 showed up with the pieces to install broken, but the kit had brackets to install two single DIN stacked. So I had used that to install the one radio in the upper part of the opening, and never did get to make something to line underneath to use as a storage cubby.
