Default 1996 G30 350 tbi crank no start no fuel at injectors

Van has 55k miles on it. Old church van that has sat for years.
Drained fuel and changed fuel filter.
Fuel pump is working
replaced bad vacuum lines that had cracked
Has spark at coil and distributor. Will start on starting fluid.

no fuel coming from injectors.

I’ve never worked on this system before so any help would be appreciated.

So I do have fuel at throttle body and injectors spray when starting with starting fluid then dies immediately.

try carefully adding gas into the throttle body to see if it stays running - if so then your injectors are not working. When my 93 does this it needs a new ICM

Check the fuel pressure regulator. It might be stuck or the diaphragm is bad. Also, the injectors themselves could be clogged from sitting. Tap on them lightly with a screwdriver handle while someone cranks the engine they might unstick. The ECU or a relay could also be the issue.

Thank you guys. I rebuilt the throttle body with all new seals and gaskets as well as injectors. Will start with adding gas and run for a second but won’t stay running.
I’m at the point where it has to be the computer. Noid light shows signal to the injectors though. Could it be a timing issue?

If the injectors are getting a signal, they should be firing. Since it runs on starting fluid but not on its own, that points toward the injectors or fuel delivery. If you have someone to help, have them crank the engine while you check the injectors to see if they’re actually spraying.

Since you already replaced the injectors, it’s unlikely both are bad. A common issue is a cracked fuel line inside the tank. On the fuel pump assembly, there’s a short rubber hose that connects the pump to the sender. Ethanol can eat away at that hose, causing cracks and leaks.

TBI systems usually run at 9–13 psi, not a lot, but it’s critical for proper operation. If that hose is leaking, fuel will make it up to the TBI but not at enough pressure to run the engine.

A few years back, we started seeing a lot of GM TBI trucks running poorly for no obvious reason, and replacing the sending unit fixed it. Can’t say for sure that’s your issue, but checking fuel pressure is the next step.

thank you for this response. I wish I had seen it sooner. I finally figured out yesterday that that line was cracked halfway through. I dropped the tank and pulled the sending unit. Pump was fine. Line was spongey and eaten halfway through and spewing gas back into the tank so 0 psi but fuel was at the throttle body. Replaced the pump while I was in there anyway and reinstalled the sending unit. Primed it a couple times and fired up the first time I turned the key.

My sister and her husband are excited. They just had their 7th child and I was getting this van running so they will have transportation for the family as a whole when needed. It was a lot of headaches but I feel I have the TBI system forever engrained in me now for any run ins in the future. They got the van from a local church for $1500 and with 55k miles I hope that it last for a long time.
The next steps are going over the brakes and rest of the drivetrain. If there is any other tid bits or issues that you are aware of about a G30 sportvan 3 door extended wheelbase with this drive train it would be greatly appreciated.(i.e. transmission, cooling system, brakes, etc.) Thank you everyone for your responses. All is greatly appreciated. God bless!

It wasn’t that you were late catching my reply, I was late responding, lol. I had taken a short break from the forums and just hopped back on yesterday. Sorry I didn’t see it sooner. Glad to hear you got it figured out, nice work! TBI setups are always “fun” to deal with. I can usually help with engine and trans stuff, but I’ve never worked on a van specifically, so I might be limited there. Still, I’ll do my best to help with anything drivetrain-related.

What’s funny is I was just talking about this exact issue with an older friend a few hours ago last night. We got on the topic of ethanol, and he told me he only ever runs ethanol-free gas in everything, even his car. Personally, I only use it in stuff that sits for a while, like my carb’d mud truck or small engines.
