Default Buying my first chevy, need tips!

Hey guys, so I'm an import kid wanting to transfer and get myself a truck. Im a DIYer and am looking to buy a pickup, more specifically an s10 or sonoma.

Im looking to boot around in, get used to the chevys a bit, and have no need for a full sized truck (1500, 2500, etc)

All the trucks up here (Vancouver BC) are between 1000-2000$..... Now this is kind of strange since imports seem to hold their value a lot more..... Anyways, anyone have any general tips? Like avoid a certain year (bad electrical).

Im looking for either a first or second gen Sonoma/s10, preferably a shortbox/regular cab, I have no need for longbox/extended cab. (Im not sure if thats the proper lingo but you guys get it :P )

But yeah, throw me your tips! I dont want any kids project, but are there fairly clean ones out there for 1000-2000$? Nobody has pictures on their ads ;

Some pics of what Im looking for, supposedly the second one is long-box but I can barely tell :O

Bump

going to look at a sonoma tomorrow. It burns a bit of oil (1 quart every 1-2 months) and this is nothing compared to the hondas I'm used to.

Heres the link
