Chevy 216 w/Rochester Carb Jetting high altitude.
Hello, I have a 51 Chevy Deluxe with the original 216 and Rochester carb, I live at like 8,000 ft and would love some help with getting the carb adjusted to the altitude. Thanks in advance.

IF my memory serves...
Those Carbs had removable Jets (2 per Carb), and had a size number stamped on them.
You need to access a Fuel Ratio Analyzer and check the ratio the Carb is set at now. Then buy (probably smaller) Jets, remove the originals, and screw the new ones in. Problem is, you don't know just how much smaller to get, so you might have to buy a few sets. They're not all that expensive.
Now...
On the Fuel Ratio, there's some slack you have.
A ratio about 14/1 is going to give you pretty good gas mileage, but, short you on power.
A ratio of about 12/1 is just the opposite, more power, lower MPG.
But, you need to keep it in the 12-14 range.
Your choice, good luck
PS:
Keep that little Dipper Engine full of Oil (+ 1/2 quart) and maybe it'll last another 60 or more years
PPS:
This is just a guess, but I bet with those stock Jets your ratio (presently) is well below 12, maybe around 9 or 10.
Let me know if I'm right
