Headlight warning buzzer
Hello,
My headlight warning buzzer won't stop when the engine is running. This buzzer is intended to sound when the headlights are on and the key is in the "off" or "accessory" position; but is meant to stop when the engine is running. Right now, I can work around the issue by turning the headlight **** clockwise which controls the dash backlighting and interior lighting all the way to the off position. This stops the buzzing (but means that my dash/dials aren't illuminated at night). At the same time as the buzzing issue started, the dials on my dash cluster stopped working: fuel level, battery, oil pressure.
1984 Chevy G20 Beauville, 6.2 Liter diesel.
I recently had work done to replace the ignition cylinder and they had to do some other work deeper in the steering column at the same time due to some related damage that occurred with the broken ignition. They had a difficult time reassembling the whole thing; it delayed them several weeks, due to not having many guys in the shop familiar with this make/model/year.
My suspicion is that there may be some switch that should be triggered/disconnected when the engine is running, and that this has stopped working, perhaps as a result of the ignition/column repairs. The issue started within 1-2 days of receiving the vehicle back from repair. I am not sure if something shook loose. Or if the lights were simply in the "off" position when I received the vehicle back.
I will also mention, in case it's relevant, that I clipped out the interior dome light in this same timeframe. I did try wiring it back in temporarily as an experiment, but that did not fix the issue. However I cannot be certain that clipping the dome light isn't a contributing factor.
I know the reasonable advice is to go back to the shop and ask, however I did inquire about it and they seem reluctant to acknowledge that it could have been due to the previous repair. They are also a busy shop, and I'm not excited about leaving the vehicle with them for another 2+ months. I even inquired with a second shop, but they don't want it. So I'm beginning to suspect that there aren't a lot of shops around with knowledge of this vehicle or the time to work on it. I'm hoping someone here might have some advice. First post, please let me know if this question is better in another forum section.
Thanks for taking a look!
