Default I ask, but, I did NOT receive !

I don't frequently ask that my vehicle run over 100mph, but today, I did.
Situation was, had to get to the hospital pretty quick, and found out something I'm really disappointed in.

So it went...
Got in, cranked well, and started though the city streets. Had an opportunity to really goose it in the lower gears, and it burned rubber and hauled a$$ just like I'd expect 5.3 Ltr to do, with a 3.73 gear. Did this several times, and it worked hard to give me a decent acceleration.

Now here's where it fell short...
After I got clear of the city streets, there's a few miles of open road, before I have to slow and start turns. So, I had it on the floor right from the last stop sign and headed out with no one in front of me.

It pulled just as hard through the gears as it has previously, but as I started to get running pretty well, it was like I had let off of the accelerator, and it abruptly leveled out at about 4000 RPM and about 95 MPH. I admit that may be off a little, but I was trying to watch where I was going more than the Tach and Speedometer. I've been driving long enough, and 1/4 mile'ed enough hot rods, to know when an engine reaches it power limit, and how it "eases" into it's that maximum,
And, that's not what happened.

I lifted the Accelerator up and shoved it back down, and nothing.
I feathered it up and down, and had about 1/3 of the total travel (from 2/3 to full) where it didn't make any difference in the forward "pull". In other words, IT decided it was only going to give me 3/4 throttle and not a bit more.

Now, my question(s) are...
Has this happened to anyone else ?
Is there some sort of Governor on a standard 02 Z71 ?
If there is some intentional limit on RPM/SPEED...
HOW DO I DEFEAT IT, where when I need it, it's there ?

Be my guess, and no I don't know how to defeat it.

kevinkpk,
Thanks for the reply, but...
If I were to get a "Power Chip" installed, would they/one of those have an intentional upper RPM/Speed limit ?

PS:
I'm just incensed with GM's "helpful" restrictions on/when they insist when my engine runs at "Reduced Power", and won't let it run out like it should on top end. Just really REALLY pi$$ed off about that !

I have topped mine out a few time racing work buddies
I think the cut off is to keep you from out running your standard tire speed rating... which I believe is 90mph for a given amount of time...

WHAT !

How thoughtful of them, not that it matters that I happen to have 112S's on it. If they'd given me two minutes or so, I'd never knew anything was being held back.

GURRRRRRRR!

most gm vehicles are ecm governed to 108mph. It can be defeated but why; its there so you don't kill yourself or someone else.

i get sometimes you need to get places fast but I used to do towing/emergency response and always stuck to being slow and steady....can't help anyone if you don't make it there

I'm really touched by you two guys concerns for my safety, and that of the community. However, I've never carried any explosives in my Burb, so I guess I'm ok there. My vehicle is paid for, out of warranty, in very good mechanical condition and I've enjoyed a '0' traffic violation/collision record for the past 40 years.

I am angered by any Governmental controls placed on me, either on the National or State level, or by some Corporation. I further INCENSED, that they would do so covertly, and in instances I've personally experienced with their convenient "Reduced Power" message, forcing me to drive 12-14 mph with 70 mph traffic zipping around me. That put ME in a lot more jeopardy then just simply opening my ride up for a couple miles under dire emergency circumstances.

I WILL see to it that when I demand 100% of my vehicle's capability, that it does so without hesitation. And gaining the knowledge of these hidden restrictions, gives me pause in the possibility of any future purchase or recommendation concerning a GM product.

I wonder just how this information if made extensively public, would impact their sales.

Maybe your emergency justified you driving that fast. I don't know, its not my business.

Be happy when you were speed limited to 17 mph, some idiot driving flat out (with his speed governor removed) didn't hammer into you.

Government/manufacturer restrictions have nothing to do with a reduced power message; if you even know what that message is about.

once again GM isn't the only manufacturers that put governors on...not 100% sure but i can say with good confidence that all obdII vehicles have governors or atleast a rev limiter

and I know i'm not the general public but I knew there were governors before i could drive
