Self-locking doors
The doors on my 05 Tahoe locked me out one afternoon. OnStar got me back in. OnStar lady said the doors lock automatically after 30min if the keys are left in the car. Anyone had this happen? Can this be changed via program preferences? Sometimes I want to leave the keys in it.

I just checked through your owners manual and in section 3 page 71 it says this about the issue.
DOOR LOCK DELAY: OFF (default):
When locking the doors with the power lock switch or
the remote keyless entry transmitter and a door or
the liftgate is open, the delayed locking feature will delay
locking the doors and liftgate until five seconds after
the last door is closed.
Press the customization button until DOOR LOCK
DELAY appears in the display. To select your
preference for delayed locking, press the select button
while DOOR LOCK DELAY is displayed on the DIC.
Pressing the select button will scroll through the
following choices:

the lock button on the remote keyless entry transmitter.
DOOR LOCK DELAY: ON:
The doors will not lock
until five seconds after the last door or the liftgate
is closed. You will hear three chimes to signal that the
delayed locking feature is in use. You can temporarily
override delayed locking by pressing the lock button on
the door or the remote keyless entry transmitter a
second time.
Choose one of the available options and press the
customization button while it is displayed on the DIC to
select it and move on to the next feature. For more

This feature will not operate if the key is in the ignition.
There is more information in section 2 on pages 10 and 11 on this subject as well. I hope this helps.

Lock-out
Therewolf, thanks but the spare key got lost/fell off. I have them on all of my other trucks.
CCS, thanks for your research too. I am starting to like this forum. Good info and good reading.
BTW, this event confirmed my admiration of OnStar. The first hit failed to open the doors. The lady asked if I was parked under a tree (I was). She said "let me get another satellite to shoot a better angle" and the doors opened about 10 seconds later. Too Cool! If I could just get her to notify me whenever my wife goes to the mall!

Yeah, it's been my experience that those magnetic key holders seem to work great till about 5 minutes before you need them. Then they get bounced or fall off the truck.
Try this. Wrap a key in plastic. Then duct tape it somewhere high up under the vehicle out of sight. Use plenty of Duct Tape, don't get all stingy, generally, it helps to find something you can wrap around, so the duct tape adheres to itself.
I've found this works better than magnetic holders. Nobody is looking for a taped key, you can do it anywhere, anytime with no special gear, and it sticks to the truck better than a magnet.
I've taken the precaution of leaving a key with a friend, having an extra at home, AND taping one to the truck, because when I get busy and stressed I tend to get scatterbrained and start losing keys left and right.
