Sudden Reduced Engine Power
My 2012 Chevy Malibu was driving normal and the reduced engine power light came on. The car started shaking like crazy and would barely drive. Very dangerous. Don’t purchase Chevrolet.
Hi Stef,
There could be several reasons for your vehicle engine going into "Limp Mode".
One is to prevent any damage to other components, another is to make the operator aware there is a serious problem that must be corrected ASAP.
Don't feel badly about this, as just about all makes and models use this strategy What needs to be done now is to have a shop/tech with the aid of a capable scan tool check for codes in the vehicle's computer. They usually provide some direction where they might start looking for the problem.
Sometimes something simple like just purchasing a load of contaminated fuel can do this.

I would think in troubleshooting any issue, stay on track. Be it with reduced engine power or won't crank, or won't start. With the case of reduced engine power, something I've not had the experience of. Go to the basic's. Fuel system first, filter, quality of fuel, and fuel pressure. Since it does run, perhaps look at the fuel system before jumping to the ignition. Since the throttle body has been replaced, don't over look that as it not being the issue, but move forward with that as a checked off item on the troubleshooting list. Research post's here regarding your issue, I would imagine you will find an answer, with that, regardless of whatever issue, if you have gotten your problem resolved, please post that. This is a bulliten board, and we are here to assist.

Found out by accident the the oil pressure sensor that's behind and underneath the distributor is also a safety cutoff switch for fuel lines.
it was made mandatory for it to be done so if in accident it shuts it all down.
Could be the switch is bad. It is however a big pain in the butt to get to unless you remove the whole distributor setup. But it is possible this is acting up.
Also check the wires lower passenger side of engine. You'll see it plugs into the bottom of engine those wires can get hot and melt causing a complete shorting out making the vehicle stop completely like its getting no fuel. Might happen over time with symptoms or like me instant. Fixed wires by separating and putting electrical tape on them and rerouting to cooler part but after throwing all new parts on it. So check wiring, plugs, stuff like that first could be a sensor. Have codes checked ask what could it be check easiest first then see about the hardest.
Like I said only suggestion
