Default TH 125c transmission 2nd to 3rd gear shift problem

My daily driver is a 1995 Beretta base model. 2.2l I4, TH 125c transmission. The car has 48,000 miles. I've driven it daily up until about a month ago when the transmission stopped shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I had it pressure tested, and was told that the pressures were correct and that the problem was likely internal. I let it sit for a month or so... decided to take it for a short drive to the store... just on a whim.... and low and behold, it shifted to 3rd, and converter then subsequently locked up shortly after that. I drove it for about 3 days back and forth to work... and for a while, it stopped shifting from 2nd to 3rd again... So the problem is intermittent... I can't tie it to driving habits or conditions... Sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't.

Any thoughts or ideas as to what could be the culprit?

thanks!

you might want to check the trans fluid level and see if it is low, while checking the dipstick and see what color the fluid is it is suppose to be a red color and if u smell it and it smell burnt or is a brown color u might want to change it as well as the filter. Changing the fluid filter in a auto trans is usually a good idea every 30,000 miles

Hope this helps
