Default Valve Spring removal

So I am work on a old 396 and I have the heads off but the valves keep moving when I am trying to remove the springs. Any tricks to help with this?

Welcome from Florida. Which removal tool are you using? With a good removal tool the valves should not be moving.

Hello from North Carolina, I might be asking a ton of questions lol I am taking part apart a 1969 396/375 or more HP four bolt main to rebuild for my car and trust me I will have help putting it back together but for now I am breaking it down. I am not sure if some of the issue is the performance added springs making it tough it is the springs within the springs.I I am using the tool with the two prongs and the star handle you tighten down.


If you suggest a better one please do I got one off after a bout 3 hours lol

Thank you that would work I just ordered one. Do you know if the one bolt holding the harmonic balancer how do you keep it from rotating to get the bolt off?

You can use an impact wrench.
