Default Van won't start, no clicking just dead silence

I have a 2002 Chevy Express 3500 with 56,000 miles (5.7L). It had two new starters in 2009 after the first one failed within a couple weeks and also had a new battery in at that time. In January of this year the fuel pump and distributor cap were replaced and we thought that was the end of our problems.

Then yesterday out of nowhere it wouldn't start. It makes no sounds like it is trying to start and all lights and radio come on fine. Then after several tries it will usually start, it has been very hit and miss but when it starts it is fine.

Any ideas? I have put more money into this van in a very short time then any other vehicle I've ever owned.

Hi veggs2000,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

Change your battery cables. Don't forget the bolts.

Thanks

I was wrong about no noise, you can clearly hear the starter clicking with each turn when the door is open.

take the starter in for a bench test, along with the battery for a load test.. check all grounds, and cable ends for corrosion

good luck
