New to forum. I found alot of information on hhr problems, including key wont come out.
I read alot of good articles about peoples problems and it got me thinking about my own.
First, the key would not come out, I had to push stupid release button. I thought it was low voltage problem, replaced battery. same old thing. I took shifter apart, as was suggested in other threads on this site, expecting to find broken shift rod. But to my suprise found a very easy fix that might help others. On the right side of shifter, is a small switch that is activated by the shift rod, which tells the ignition switch to release the key when in park. I found the switch misaligned and loose. The shift lever not making contact.
Epoxied switch in proper position works like brand new. just remember that the metal shift arm must be under switch lever. Better then paying GM for a new shifter Hope this helps.
