I have a 2010 HHR and have had horrible problems with the AC dumping water into the passenger side floorboard! I've read other instances of this happening on others cars. I've had the hose blown out numerous times, had to have the fuses replaced due to water, had a new blower motor put in, etc. It's so bad I'm afraid there's mold underneath the carpet! The last mechanic stated it would be over $1500 to fix it... why hasn't there been a recall on this problem???

 

 

I had this problem with my then new 2011 HHR. After having the dealership work on it multiple times(was under warranty) without success I read the forum and found an article that said it could be the wiring harness in the door. I called the service manager that actually listened to me and no doubt check it himself and the problem was finally resolved. I hope this helps.

 

did you get this fixed? Water is supposed to go down inside the cowl (area under the windshield wipers). The problem is there are drain holes at both ends of this trough that get plugged up with leaves and crap. Look under the fenders in the front towards the back of the wheels and you will see the little drains. When those drains are plugged up the water fills up like a bath tub in the cowl and then comes into the car through the blower motor area of the heater/ac and goes onto passenger floor.

It's not hard to take that panel off. You need a 13mm socket to take wipers off and then an 8mm for the little screws in the black panel. Just lift off and you're in there. Get a shop vac and suck all the dirt out on both sides.

Mine did the same thing. Extremely easy fix.
I used air to blow the drain clean from under the hood. I also used a large shop vac to help remove any debris. If you feel the need to clean the coil its easily accesed thru the center ac vents on your dash. I would suggest using both air and suction to get the drain clean.
Now for the good and baf news on your carpet.
your carpet is easier to remove than you think. FIRST DISCONNECT THE BATTERY.
Next you need to remove all the lower trim panels. You will also need to remove the bolts that hold your seatbelts to remove the side pannels. Buy a trim removal tool kit. Very cheap but very valuable.
​​​​​​Next, your front seats are super easy to remove, so easy a caveman can do it, 2 bolts on each seat. Tip the seats forward and unhook the seat electronics on both sides and slide them out the back with the back seats folded down.
​​​Next remove the seat bracket, 2 bolts and 2 nuts, super easy. Last you need to look at the base of your back seat. You will see covers that protect 4 nuts. Remove the covers and remove the 4 nuts and your back seats now fold up making it now possible to fully remove the carpet. Be careful not to tear any of the foam rubber in the process. I was able to totally dry the car and I had to use an ozone generator to get rid of the smell from multiple people dumping soaps and deodorants on it.
the good news is these carpets can be removed, cleaned and replaced I a matter af a few hours.
The bad news is no one makes aftermarket carpets for the HHR so all you have is new old stock. The cheapest I was able to buy a brand new carpet was about $500 shipped. At the dealer theyre $426+tax if the dealer can find one. It depends where you live as to what dealer may have one available.
Third choice is to bone one out of a junk yard. Took me about an hour to remove mine.

And dont forget there is a cabin filter that installs from behind the glove box. That keeps crud out of your blower box and is simple to replace.
