Default 2003 Impala Brake question

I am needing to change the brakes on a friends 2003 Impala LS. I will probably have to replace the rotors as well or at least have them turned. Is there any issues or concerns that I will need to look forward to when I do this. I have changed my own brakes on older vehicles but also on my newer cars but mainly dodge products. Just wanted a some friendly help if there is something I need to be aware of. I will also be looking at the rear brakes, is there any issues there also? Thanks in advance for any help. Paul

hey paul, no problem. just a couple bolts on the caliper bracket and two for the caliper on each. my suggestion would be to use ceramic brake pads. they put out less dust and last alot longer then semi metallic.

s34n, won't he have to take the bracket off the spindle to replace the rotor? When replacing the bracket, should those bolts be torqued or just tighten the crap out of them? Also the ceramic pads are tops. MDTahoe recommended a Japanese pad (something like achin boner). Ain't I just a riot!

gwampa, he will have to take the bracket off the spindle. i've always just tightened them as much as possible. those bolts are next to impossible to break. make sure to use loctite on the thread for the bracket and caliper bolts. also remember to grease the pins.

Very easy to replace. For your rotors instead of turning them go and buy a new set. Turned rotors dont last very long and within a short time you will end up with brakes pulsations. Now you can find rotors made in china and after trying them myself on my 2003 Impala I found that they lasted as long as the originals for a fraction of the price than the OE ones.
