Default 2014 3.6 - battery ran down for no reason

Car has been perfect up until last night.

I just got off the highway (80mph for 20 mins) pulled into parking spot and idled for 5 mins then shut off. When I tried to start it.. click-click-click-click-click---click----click--------click..dead. I tried 3 or 4 times, but the clicks were getting weaker. Definitely a weak battery. Luckily, someone gave me a boost and no issues since.

Car has 2500 miles, so this not normal. I would take it into dealer to check charging system, but since it works fine now, I assume they will not find any issues and charge me $125 for diagnostic work . OnStar says there are no codes being thrown. I didn't lose my radio presets or Bluetooth connections but that clicking sound means only one thing, and the boost started it right up.

I'll keeping jumper cables in my new car

You say weak battery but perhaps a weak charging system?

Have you been using the electrical outlet adapter with a high drain type device, laptop??

Autozone or some other major chain should be able to test the charging system or battery.

Got the car back... battery was replaced under warranty. They said it was leaking at the bottom so it stopped taking a charge.

Interesting feature on the car, if your battery starts to get low, the accessories start shutting down one by one in increasing order of importance (read owners manual). The heated/cooled seats, the sunroof, etc.. in a pretty intelligent manner. This car is high tech for sure, but pulls a heavy load from the alternator and battery.

battery leaking is why gm has left the side post style battery since probably 2005.

There is no charge for this check-up. Take it and get the problem solved. This is highly unusual and...something is wrong.

They cleaned the area under the battery and said there was no acid damage. I took a look to confirm. I think it was a slow leak that the rainwater splashing around must have neutralized the acid. In any event, it looks clean and the paint is fine. If there are any issues related to it, I can always claim back on it.
