Default 64 Impala with Pillar!

Hey,
I own a 1964 Impala, but with a post. I was wondering if anyone had any info on why? who? how many? Im in Australia, its right hand drive. A mate reckons it could have been a special order for the government?

Ive checked the numbers and its a v8 impala built in Tarrytown.

any info would be good.

Chevy made the 64 Impala 2 and 4 doorin a Sedan (with post) and Hardtop (without post). The post cars were usually less expensive andwere frequently usedas fleet vehicles and good low cost transport. You can find somegeneral spec info at http://carnut.com/specs/gen/chv64.htmland a info forum for 61-64 full size Chevy at http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/sh...llsize_Chevys/ That right drive looks interesting you don’t' see many here in the states. Really Nice Car! I've got a 66 Impala SS Conv and I love driving these old Chevies even more than the new ones (except when I have to go to the gas station the 66 gets 16mpg down hill with a tailwind.)

Thanks for that. Its so hard trying to find decent info on these cars, they get lost in the internet mess.

Well yeh as u saw its a 4 door sedan but these dont really get acknowledged as a model level, do they?

I was talking to a few people on a forum here in Aust. and everyone thought the 4 door 64 impala was only a pillarless. no one had seen any other pillared 64 impala, on this forum i was asking on.

Yeh apparently its factory RHD for Australia, which may give it a more interesting story.

thanks
