Impala trunk randomly opens
My 2017 Impala trunk opens when the car is started by remote or if I'm in the car using the start button.
It's not the fob as that has been ruled out. It's been at the dealer for almost a week and they can't figure it out.
The tech even said turning on the lights will open the trunk.
It's out of warranty from exceding milage and I was hoping to hear some options on what it might be to save some dough on the $145 an hour diagnostic fees.
Other than this I love the car.

Hi Jeff,
Welcome to the forum. This is certainly an interesting problem you have. I assume your dealer has scanned the car for codes. How good is this dealer, did you have good experiences with them before? I had problems once with my 2001 Impala. I had my wife take it to the dealer but all we got was the run around and said they could not find anything either BUT DID adjust the routing of some wires and reseated the horn relay. These actions did not have ANY effect or fix the problem we were seeing. The check vehicle light was randomly lighting on the cluster. When my wife came home with the repair order, and the no problem found comment, we reconfirmed the error was still happening. On the RO, they listed the codes found in the car. I looked them up and found they were BCM related (headlight circuit and horn circuit). you see when my wife locks the car with the remote, the horn chirps and the headlights flash. I sent her back the next day to replace the BCM. They asked why do you ask that? I told her to say, because of the error codes. They then asked what error codes? She replied, the ones you gave me on the RO. They replace the BCM, and never had a problem again. While this is not the problem you are seeing, The BCM does play a big part in controlling the car. You may want to have the dealer look in this area.

Thanks for the reply Frank.
It has no codes showing and the next step is to access the BCM and check all the connections. I trust the dealer and kinda think this would be best left to them with all the dash removal bs they have to do.
P.S. My apologies for starting 2 identical threads. Fat arthritic fingers.

Here's an update.
There was a crack in the insulation of one of the trunk actuator wires allowing it to become energized randomly.
Some new wires and almost $800 later it's all good.
Ouch.
Merry Christmas
Jeff
