Can't find the post there at the moment.

I remember reading at carcomplaints.com or something like that about someone who burnt up the rear brakes driving with them applied because they didn't release.

I always set mine every time.

GM Recall #:
<li class="ng-binding">N140471
  • NHTSA Recall #:
  • 14V541

  • Date Issued:
  • Sep 05, 2014

Recall Title:
ELECTRONIC PARK BRAKE DRAG
Recall Description:
General Motors has decided that certain 2013 2015 model year (MY) Cadillac XTS and 2014 2015 MY Chevrolet Impala vehicles may fail to conform to S5.5 of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 135 (Brake system warning indicator). Some of these vehicles have a condition in which the electronic parking brakes piston actuation arm may not fully retract, which may cause the brake pads to stay partially engaged with the rotor. In this condition, the parking brake indicator may not illuminate even though the parking brake is engaged, which would render a vehicle noncompliant with FMVSS 135.
Safety Risk Description:
In addition to the parking brake indicator malfunction described above, the driver may experience poor vehicle acceleration, undesired deceleration, excessive brake heat, and premature wear to some brake components. If the brake drag is significant or if the vehicle is operated for an extended period of time in this condition, there is a potential for the rear brakes to generate significant heat, smoke, and sparks.
Repair Description:
Dealers are to update the logic in the electronic parking brake software, free of charge.

So with the update - we'll probably at least know that the EPB is still half applied and dragging or not...

So apply and disengage again.

I heard they're going create a new recall to use the water that's leaking into the trunk and divert it to keep the rear parking brakes cool.

I had an appointment to get this done yesterday. I was able to get BOTH the power steering recall and the one for the emergency brakes done. All in all it took about an hour and a half to get both of them performed and I was on my way.

You do know the Impala is made in Canada, right? If you don't own GM stock, your argument has no meaning.

You do know that the Impala is made in both USA and Canada right ? Impala's are built at both the Detroit/Hamtramak Assembly Plant and Oshawa Ontario Assembly Plant.
