So my Malibu is starting to loose it's low end power. I don't know what could possible cause this, but I have an idler bearing on the belt making noise also that started making noise about the same time power loss started happening; or so I'm told. We are apparently also going through gas pretty quickly; more than twice as fast.

I really have no idea how else to explain everything going on. My wife drives the car all the time, and isn't very knowledgeable about engines and what to do about problems that start.

Any input or comments (that are helpful) would be appreciated.

There's not enough to go on but a restrictive exhaust come to mind. Unburned fuel out the exhaust can cook the catalytic converter in short order.
