IHA 97 Malibu 2.4L. About a year ago the overflow coolant reservoir warning light came on. Even after filling the reservoir the light remained. A Chevy dealership suggested replacing the pressure cap. This did the trick. However, a year later the light came back on. I replaced the cap again but it still has not gone out. There is water in the reservoir and there are no noticeable leaks. The reservoir is not loosing water.

Ideas?

Could be a faulty sensor at the reservoir.

thanks. I was thinking it might be the sensor. the Chiltons manual sates I have to replace the whole overflor tank. What!?! I know I can buy teh sensor separate. Do i really have to replace the tank?

 

Replacd teh sensor and flushed the cooling system. All is well now! Much cheaper alternative to replacing teh whole tank. Stupid manual!
