Technical Service Bulletin

RE: Technical Service Bulletin
This bulletin does not concern the mailbu maxx. It is only for the sedans. The sedans have the radio antenna built into the rear glass, while the maxx's have a standard antenna mast.

RE: Technical Service Bulletin
Hello Shawnvw
Good Job, thanks for the help. Have you herd or experienced this static problem before? The reason I ask is that I had the radio replaced once by GM and now I think I can take it back to the dealer and maybe have them install a part that can fix it. The radio plays great in all circumstances except when the static starts and it will actually stop if I turn on the rear window defogger. Thanks.

static goes AWAY when the defogger is on???
Usualy the static is present when the defogger is on. At any rate, It could be caused by a few things....the capacitor explained above, a defective\poorly grounded antenna module, or a break in the defogger grid. Do any of the grids not work when it is turned on?
Do you have a maxx or a sedan?

RE: Technical Service Bulletin
Hi shawnvw
That is correct. After the radio was replaced (about 3-4 months ago) it started to go static again especially when I'm near high tension lines or metal bridges. I started trying every thing I could including: turning on the rear window defroster, and believe it or not, when I push in on the plastic reveal or molding that surrounds the perimeter of the radio, as long as I keep pressure it will stop the static until I release pressure. What really got me thinking about a capacitor was that now, when I just hold my open hand along side the frame of the radio it will, for a short time, stop the static. Now, since, the warranty is over, I don't know if the dealer will do anything. My Malibu is a (5) door Maxx. As I mentioned before the radio works great when the static stops; it has great tone and bass. I really like the Maxx a lot and the radio is all that has gone wrong; although, the mileage is very low; only approx. 5K. Thanks for all your help. PS: the only thing wrong with my fixes is that they don't last, like when I turn on the rear defogger, it will stop the static like zap but then about 4 minutes later its back.
