On my wife's 99 lumina, with the 3100 engine. I changed the spark plugs out, when installing new wires I got 1 and 3 switched. now that i have it wired right , the check engine light is on and will not go off.
How do I reset the check light?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Dis-connect the battery for a few mins.

 

x2 disconnect the battery

 

I changed the plugs today on my wife's 99 lumina(3100). When replaceing the wires I made a mistake, put the #3 on the #1. I have since wired it correctly. Now the check engine light is on. I took the neg battery cable off for the 30 seconds my Haynes manual reccomends, but with no luck.
My question is this,
How do I reset the check engine light?

thanks for the tip, but been there done that with no change as a result.

Would it matter if it was reset by a diagnostic machine, instead of disconnecting the battery? Just a thought.

I always unhook both... For longer than 30 seconds to.

 

hey man, disconnecting the battery for a few minutes should do it.. if not, then next thing i would do is have someone with a scan tool pull codes. maybe the check engine light is on for another reason? if it is still just on from you having the wires mixed for a minute, then have them clear the codes. I have 2 scan tools that will do it, but i am a little far from you. I am up by winston salem. take it to autozone. Have them pull the codes, write them down, then have them clear the codes. if the cel comes back on tell me what the code(s) is/are.

 

i disconnect for like 15 minutes..
if not then autozone/ advanced auto ahve them scan and clear (its free)
