Talking 1990 Chevy Silverado C1500.....New to the Forum

Just wanted to introduce myself, I am Drew and I am in the Army in upstate New York. I have a 1990 Chevy Silverado C1500 that I bought this past winter that I have grown to love. I am in the process of rebuilding her after hitting a couple of deer and doing some pretty good damage to her. I was originally advised to sell it off to a junk yard but I couldn't do it. So after having it in the shop for getting some of the major issues taking care of I am looking to see what I can do to maximize my MPG. I already have a K&N air filter on it, but I am also leaning towards a cold air intake. I know having a V8 5.7 350 is going to limit my ability to get decent MPG, but I am always up for suggestions...thanks!

Drew

welcome to the forums, and thank you for your service.
cold air intake will help, a new chip for the computer, throttle body spacer, cat-back exhaust, good plugs, wires. i like the taylor spiro pro wires.

Welcome... I'm in the Air Force... you can get 20 mpg outta that truck. a good exhaust and a light foot will get you that 20 mpg, if you have a 4-speed.

I get my truck back next week. Got any advice on what type or brand of cold air intake and whether or not to put flow masters on the dual exhaust?

Go with the Flowmasters, as for a CAI, I dunno on your truck. In my 89 I was pulling 20mpg with nothign but a chip.

I have another question....Is there something I can do for my fuel gauge? It seems when I step on the gas to get up and go in a hurry or what not I can see the gauge go down. It usually bounces back up to where it is but it had always bothered me. Is it just the way it was designed 20 years ago or can I do something to reduce that in the gauge? Thanks.....I hope this made sense!
