Default 1964 Nova/GEN & TEMP lights do not come on with ign on and eng off

I have a '64 Chevy II Nova and the GEN/TEMP lights do not come on when ignition is on and engine off. Both light bulbs and socket grounds ok, I grounded the wire at the temperature switch and the TEMP light comes on. Also grounded the dark green wire at ignition switch and the light comes on. Switch has been replaced and is good. Ground at switch appears to be good since I jumped wire from dark green at ignition switch touching key and it lights up. Ignition switch was replaced and made no difference. Also while replacing the switch the GEN light came on in the ACC mode. Using a test light on the sockets will turn test light and light bulbs on. Any ideas or advised? I'm here scratching my head knowing that is something simple I must be nut looking at...
