Default Suburban steering has too much play

I have a 1983 Suburban that has too much steering play. The shaft into the gear box turns more about an inch before the output to the pitman arm starts to move. Are there any adjustments or do i just replace the gear box?

Yes. I'd strongly suggest you buy a manual, also make sure the play is in the gearbox. May look around on you tube. This isn't as easy as it looks, but can be done.
