Default Rear Hatch FAILURE!!!

On my 2004 2 door blazer i have the half hatch where the glass pops up and the tailgate drops. well, it worked great until the glass pop mechanism broke. you push the button and the hatch tries to pop but does not release the glass. Has anyone else had this problem? and if so, any ideas as to fixing it without paying a shop about $400 to fix it? any ideas would really help.

Remove the inner panel from the tailgate and check to see if it's a linkage problem.

i looked in the back and the problem with that is there are 2 screws on the side of the tailgate that aren't accessible because i can't drop it. i guess it'll be $400 out of the pocket then
