Question 2005 truck won't start

I have a 2005 Chev 4x4 1/2 ton with 305 engine. Intermitantly when you put in the key all of the dash lights come on but when I turn the key to start position, all dash lights go out except for engine symbol, but the engine doesn't turn over. The only way that I can get it to start is keep going back and forth with key until it finally kicks in. Sometimes it is a few few key turns next time it will be 30 or so before it kicks in. I took it to GM and they said it was a weak battery so I changed it, but that didn't help. It continues to do it and with no pattern. I have checked it the battery cables for tightness. Need some help.

starter could be going out or ignition coil. have you checked your plugs for spark?

I changed my plugs and plug wires last summer. After I had installed the new ones I did have one plug that was no good so they replaced it.
