Default Duramax question

I have not owned a diesel before but have been looking for one for a few months. I am looking at the 05-07 Silverado 4dr 4x4. I know the 05's and older have a 5spd tranny and 06 and newer have a 6spd tranny. Is there alot of difference in them???? Also is the 6.6 diesel the same in the 05-07 models?? Any help on picking the right vehicle would be appreciated.. I am not going to be doing much hauling at all. I mostly like the look of the 2500hd. The truck I am looking at now is an 05 Duramax with 127k miles LT 4dr 4x4. Any pros or cons to look for on this one?? It's a one owner and in good shape. Thanks for any help.

06 LBZ with the 6 speed is hands down the best that GM has put out so far. I'd try and find one of those. The LBZ motor is great even with the 5 speed, but they seem to act totally different behind a 6 speed. And stock they won't do very good. Idk exact numbers but I remember seein somewhere around 350 hp and 650 tq stock

I'm not sure exactly what the LBZ, or the other L?? really means other than the style or type engine. Sorry, I am a Toyota fan and not familar with chevy engines. I'm wanting a chevy deisel so throw me plenty of advise. Thanks. I've got a 21k budget.

06-07 classic chevy/gmc duramax. They're hard to come by but are worth every penny. Lb7 was 02-04, good motors but had injector problems, LLY was 04-05 and honestly not sure of any defects, just know the 06-07 LBZ is a better version of the LLY

Thanks for the good info. Is there any real difference in the chevy 2500 and the GMC 2500 other than the body style? Motor, Trans, running gear? How about an 06 GMC 2500 HD diesel with 141k miles.

Power train will be the same, interiors will be too. Front end is only difference I believe. Doesn't sound like a bad truck. Take it for a test drive

Found out today that the 06 has been sold. I found a new listing tonight for an 07 LT crew cab 4x4 with 119k miles diesel for 22,900. I'm looking but everything nice seems to be 4-6 hours away.
