I have an electronic 4L60E tranny in my 2wd truck. and when its cold 3rd gear and over drive work great. but once it gets warm it wont move in 3rd or over drive it only works in 1st and 2nd gear. i have another tranny 700r4 but i dont kno if it will work because it came out of a 1989 chevy 1500 2wd. is that tranny in that 1989 chevy 1500 electronic. wat should i do.

I can tell you for sure that the 700 will not bolt up to your engine.

the truck that has a bad tranny is a 1993 5.7 liter. so the 700r4 wont bolt up to a 350 small block.

it will bolt right up but the harness is diff and the 700 has a throttle valve cable that hooks to to the throttle bodyto control parts of the tranny

ok so thanks for all ur replays. any sugestions on wat kind of tranny i should get and use.or should i try to fix the 4l60e. witch way do u guys think would be cheaper.

see wat happened is i did a motor swap from a v6 to a v8 and i used the 4l60e tranny. so it would just be cheaper u think to just fix the 4l60e

I ran my 1986 700r4 tranny behind a 1994 5.7l for 6 months before i got an electronic 4l60e to replace it and make the computer happy. The value of the TV cable though, cannot be overstated. The cable for the 700, will fit directly into where your cruise control cable is plugged into now. Just make sure you adjust it correctly!

As for your 4l60e, mine went out the same way. The 3/4 clutch pack is slipping. Either a lack of internal fluid pressure is not holding the pack tight when the fluid gets warm, or the pack is just very worn and the reduction of pressure by warm fluid is causing it to slip. Same difference. It will do this till it wont drive in 3rd or 4th at all. I would know. The parts arent that expensive if you are inclined to do it yourself. You can have it rebuilt by a shop for around $750 give or take, if you take the tranny out yourself. Good luck

Oops, forgot to say. The clutch packs on the v8 tranny are different than the v6's. So if you have it rebuilt, make sure you tell them its for a v8, otherwise the extra power of the v8 will burn out the new one too in short time.
