Hey guys,
I am a US service member stationed in Germany; I just bought a 2000 Z71 and when I put it in 4WD(auto shifter), it went in no problem, then when I went to put it in 2wd, it wont go back. If you push the 2wd button it will try(you hear the shifter motor on the transfer case working) the button will flash, then it just goes back to the 4wd light. I know this is a common problem, but I am not having luck searching the forums, and I have limited time and resources here in Germany!! I need to diagnose and repair pretty quickly,

for the time being see if it will go into auto 4wd. thats not hard on the front end like 4wd is.
it sounds like ur encoder motor is bad. thats the motor on the side of the transfercase that locks it in and out of 4wd. the actuator could also be stuck. either part only takes bout 20 minutes to change.
