iirc the 2014 with electric powersteering assist have gone back to using a steering wheel lock. if the wheel is turned when the truck is off and the lock engages; you will have to turn the wheel to take pressure off the lock to be able to turn the key when starting.

I owned my 2013 silverado for 2 days and less than 200 miles when mine locked up in my driveway. Tow truck dragged it on and dragged it off at the dealership. It fixed itself apparently bc they had no explanation. Yes, I know all about the wheel lock, turning the steering wheel, etc. I was out of my mind so it's nice to see I'm not crazy, it happens to others too.

2013 don't have steering wheel locks; in fact 2014 is a complete redesign. You probably have a worn out key which is common and explains why it fixed itself.

Worn out key? It had 200 miles on it and I started it 3 times when I was locked out. My prior 99 chevy Silverado was 14 years old, had 245 k miles on it with the original key!

The keys for your current truck may last half that.

Default 2015 Key banging on steering column

I am wondering if there is a pad to put on the steering column so that my house/office keys don't bang on the steering column?

Take it to the shark tank baby! I have to separate my keys because the banging was driving me crazy!
