Default 5.3 Exhaust Ideas?

Im looking into putting a new exhaust system on my truck, a 2000 Z71 5.3. As of now I have my old Flowmaster 40 SI/DO muffler dumped right before the read axle. I did this just to get a louder tone from the stock muffler. Well after driving it for a week now I've come to not like it at all. I have been looking at videos on youtube and reading around on different forums looking for a good setup in my price range, hopefully no more than $500, that I like. The sound I am wanting is a deep growl, not extremly loud but a deep tone. Nothing that pops when I rev high. Just a nice and deep at low RPMs and at higher RPMs gives a good throaty sound. Thanks in advance and I hope this wasnt too long.

I just got a new "cat back" Flowmaster dual exhaust system installed on my 2004 Silverado 4x2 with the 5.3L V8. It sounds awesome!

The "40 Series" mufflers were too loud (a friend has them on his '02), so I went with the "50 HD" Flowmasters with stainless steel tips. It seems to have been the right choice. BTW, if you want duals, get them from the "cat back" - rather than having one pipe go into two behind the axle.

Too early to see if I am getting improved fuel mileage, but the truck feels a lttle bit peppier.

with a budget of 500 you could do just about anything. I have magnaflow on my tahoe and love it. I have a total of $190 in parts and labor.

The shorter they are the louder they are. Corsa is also an excellent muffler but kinda cost alot. I have Part # 12198

I would check out the dynomax single side exit cat back kit. I have it on my 2000 5.3 and it sounds awsome, plus the power gains pretty noticable. Here is the part number: 39311 These mufflers are some of the least restrictive out there less than magnaflow, borla, and flowmaster. They retail for around $350.

if you want a good deep throaty sound and no popping you gotta go with the super 44 flowmasters, i have a 40 series on my 4.3 v6 and it sounds great just a deep throaty tone even at 5,000 rmp.
