Breakin procedure
From what I have been reading, I guess you dont have to worry about too much of a breakin procedure. Just vary the speed for the first 500 miles and that should do it from what I can tell.
if you mean like new from the factory then you shouldent have to worry to much. thats what a worenty is for right? lol if your talkin about a newly built motor like out of your garage then the most i would worry about is poundin on it to hard. i would get at least 100 or 150 ks on it before i abused it to much.
I was talking about a new vehicle. The warranty is only good for 36k miles. I reckon even if you broke it in wrong it will still go beyond that. I was hoping for some good advice as far as making the truck last 250k miles.
) I plan on keeping it a long time.

just drive it easy for the first thousand miles, this will let EVERYTHING "breakin", the tranny, the rear end, and the engine. do a fluid change around then also. Put good synthetic fluids is everything after the first thousand miles, front and rear axles also if you have a 4x4.
Yes, I have a four wheel drive. I was thinking about changing to synthetic in the diffs. I was also wondering about the first oil change. They say you dont need to change untill it says to or appx 3000. I didnt know if there was special breakin oil in there or not.

remember they want you to buy a new truck in 2 years. I would change it at a 1k. It could not hurt, right?
I dont think they use a "breakin oil" its just not synthetic. They claim synthetic is not good for break in as the rings may not wear in correctly, or so ive heard.

If ring break-in was an issue when using synthetic oil, manufacturers would not install it at time of assembly. My 2005 Silverado has synthetic rear differential lube from the factory but the front differential did not so I changed that. I also installed Mobil 1 5W-30 engine oil at 90 miles. As far as how to drive the vehicle during break-in, your owners manual covers that. Just don't work it hard right away and vary the engine speed. If your vehicle has an oil life indicator system you can use that as a good indication of when to change oil but keep in mind it is calibrated for petroleum based oil and not a synthetic. Keep your receipts if you do your own service in case you have to document that you have maintained your vehicle properly.
