Problem with that is if you ever want to sell the truck you will have a butchered box....I for one would not want to purchase a truck like that.

I would suggest purchasing a K&N kit. You can select the year of your vehicle to see what is available here

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Air Intake Kit - 1999 - 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 - TheAutoPartsShop

The items that show "1 in stock" may not be immediately available

yes you COULD cut the bottom out, but I've said before that wouldn't make much of a difference since the side entrance through the fender flows very well. If if makes you feel better then cut away. It only take 20 min. at the most

Actually, I put in a replacement tube with kn filter using the stock box. I developed a very annoying resonating sound under partial throttle with a load. So annoying that after several attempts to resolve it failed, I went back to stock. I would recommend going with an actual kit that bypasses the fender area.

Just my .02

Make it removable so that when you decide to go wheelin it's not there. Just put a block off plate in its place when not in. Shouldn't be hard

I dunno, that was my experience. I have since replaced my 08 4.8L with a 6.0L vortec max. I am looking forward to getting the base cold air kit from KN. Won't do the tube only thing. Just had a bad experience. Will do the actual plastic tube kit with the exposed cone filter.
