Default fuel gauge ???

I have a 2001 silverado with the 6.0 in it. The fuel gauge will read empty when full and bounce back and forth also. I had another 2001 that had the same problem, any of you guys have this problem, and how did you fix it? Thanks Bob

I had a similar issue with a 96 Impala SS I just got out of storage this Summer.

Back then, there was a thin, brass wiper attached to the float arm on the pump assembly that rubbed along a wire wrapped around an arched plastic bar that sent the signal to the gauge. It sounds like yours is making contact off and on. No signal= "E".

Could be the fuel gauge, the circuit, or the sender on the fuel pump assy.

Mine was messed up from sitting for 11 years without moving on a 1/2 tank of gas mixed with Stabil

You might check the wire connections going to the pump assembly on top of the tank, check the wires and see if they are rubbing on something else, check voltage at the plug itself, or pull the pump, plug it back in, and wiggle the float to see if it works with a little sideways pressure on it.

I hope its the plug. Good luck!
