Default Ignition

The wife took the truck and you got it--its broke. It is a 1989 silerado stepside with the efi 350. The key turns to accessory but will not go further its lke locked, What could it be? please help--- Peter[]

mabye the linkage is beny or somthing. have you tryed movung it into another gear mabye. what was she doing when it broke?

she couldn't get the key out, when trying to do so she turned it foward engaging the starter and than the key came out and now it won't start.

You can try to take the steering wheel off and see if the linkage is bent or broke. If you want to be simple and make it running and drivable you can run a wire from the starter main power to a switch to the starter selinod. It won't be right but if the wheel will unlock you will be able to drive it.

somthing else that i thought about is that mabye the key is worn out. i was thinking of that when i had my old truck out today.

If the key was wore out it would most likely turn forward start turn back to run and you would be able to pull the key out, then shut the truck off with or without the key but not be able to turn the ignition after it was locked. even if you turned to run and had a wore out key you should be able to start it without a key. That dosen't sound like a wore out key to me.
