Default Installing Running Boards - Is this easy?

We just purchased a 2007 Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab. Now we want to install running boards.
Is this easy to do?
What's involved?
Any recommendations for what to look for in a running board or are they all pretty much the same in terms of quality?

Thanks, Dave

Are you wanting "running boards" or nerf bars/step rails?

Most of them willmount the same way as nerf bars. There are holes in the frame that the bolts go through.

I got the GM brand running boards. They were very easy to install. No holes to drill, very solid. Check these out.

My preference would be nerf bars, but I won't rule out running boards. I've been told Westin and Lund are good quality. Any brands I should consider and should I go with stainless steel?

If you want running boards, personally I would get them from GM for quality and proper fitment. If you want the polished look of nerf bars, definatley go with stainless steel, they wont rust. Although cheaper, chrome plated bars will rust if you scratch them. No matter what you go with, their all easy to install, just like Eurogold said, there are holes already there for the bolts to go through. It helps if you have two sets of hands doing the project.

Hi,

I installed the GM 6" chrome tubular assists on my 2007 silverado 1500 a couple of months ago with my son (5 years old). Very easy to do and they came with all the required hardware. Now my son can climb up into the truck by himself ;-)

How have these boards held up?

I have the GM 6" oval and they are great. Easy to clean and they stay shiny. If you can turn a wrench, then you can install these. All the holes are in place and the GM boards are solid.
